A serving air force officer has gone missing from the Command Hospital here, with his whereabouts still unknown to the family as also to the police a week after the disappearance.

Fifty two-year-old Brajesh Kumar Shukla, a Junior Warrant Officer posted at the Jorhat air base, Assam, of the Indian Air Force (IAF), has been missing since 5 pm on May 4, family members said.

Shukla, who had been admitted to the hospital on April 26 for the treatment of eye diabetic retinopathy cataract, underwent an operation on May 2.

"He was last seen on the hospital premises at around 5 pm on May 4, and is missing since then," a family member said. Shukla's mobile phone was found on his bed.

The discharge summary prepared by the hospital on May 5 records "discharged in absentia".

A missing complaint was lodged at the Alipore Police Station the next day.

The missing person squad of the city police has been informed.

"We have kept the Air Force Police in the loop. As of now, we are not suspecting any foul play. However, his sudden disappearance has come as a shock to the family, since when he last spoke to them on May 3, everything seemed fine," a relative said.
