IHG to manage Adyar Gate's beach resort

Global hospitality major InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has entered into an agreement with Adyar Gate Hotels Ltd. to manage a beach resort promoted by the latter near here.

In a statement issued here on Friday, IHG announced the signing of the agreement for InterContinental Chennai Mahabalipuram Resort.

The 106-room resort, expected to go into business later this year, will be the second property for IHG under its luxury brand in India, the first one being the InterContinental Mumbai Marine Drive, Mumbai.

The beach resort is the second property for which IHG has signed agreement with city-based Adyar Gate Hotels recently. The other agreement pertained to managing Adyar Gate Hotels' property under the brand name of Crowne Plaza Chennai Adyar Park.

 

"With its growing popularity as a tourism destination, the Tamil Nadu capital is a key growth city for us and, with its proximity to both the business district and tourist attractions such as the UNESCO world heritage site at Mahabalipuram, the location of the new InterContinental Chennai Mahabalipuram Resort is second to none," said Shantha de Silva, head, South West Asia, IHG, in the statement.

With its global scale and system, IHG is confident of driving up revenue and occupancy at the resort.

IHG has 21 hotels (4,100 rooms) in 13 cities in India across four brands -InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express. The company has 47 hotels (9,000 rooms) in its development pipeline, including Holiday Inn Express Chennai OMR and Holiday Inn Chennai OMR Tidel Park.
