The Income Tax department has added 18 more names to its list of defaulters to be "named and shamed" for owing over Rs.1,100 crore to the exchequer.
The department had earlier issued two lists mentioning the names of 49 defaulters owing over Rs.2,000 crore.
With the new list, the total number of income tax and corporate tax defaulters has gone up to 67 and the total dues over Rs.3,100 crore.
In the new list, Mumbai-based late Uday M. Acharya and his legal heirs owe a whopping Rs.779.04 crore.
Ahmedabad-based Jashubhai Jewellers Pvt Ltd and Kalyan Jewels Pvt Ltd owe Rs.32.13 crore and Rs.16.77 crore respectively.
Urging the tax defaulters to pay up their dues immediately, the tax department has also requested the public to inform it about information on defaulters.
The other major defaulters figuring in the departments defaulters lists are Patheja Bros. Forgings and Auto Parts Mfg.Company (Rs.224.05 crore), Totem Infrastructure Ltd (Rs.401.64 crore) and Royal Fabrics Pvt Ltd (Rs.158.94 crore).
