President Pranab Mukherjee has said that India attaches high priority to its relations with Thailand, and has expressed his desire to strengthen engagement in politics, security and commerce between the two countries, a statement said on Tuesday.
The President shared his view in a meeting with Thailand Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on Monday at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Welcoming the Princess to India, the President said that India looks upon her as a special friend of the country.
"India attaches high priority to its relations with Thailand. We would like to see the strengthening of our engagement in all fields, including political, security, commercial and connectivity," the President said.
During the meeting, the President expressed his condolences on the sad demise of King Bhumibol Adulyadej and said that he will be remembered fondly for his compassion, foresight and commitment to the welfare of his people.

The President also congratulated Sirindhorn on receiving the first World Sanskrit Award, saying, "India lauds her efforts to promote Sanskrit language and her keen interest in our literature, art and culture".
Sirindhorn warmly reciprocated the President's words and thanked him for his condolences.
She also said that the late King had a special place in his heart for India.
