An India-born man residing in Britain has been sent to a mental hospital with a no-time limit restriction order under the Mental Health Act for killing his wife in 2009, media reported.
Harjinder Pal, 34, was arrested following the killing of Kulvir Kaur, 21, at their home in London but was deemed unfit to be tried. He was detained under the Mental Health Act, the Ealing Times reported Wednesday.
A recent assessment of his mental health considered him fit to stand trial at the Central Criminal Court of England and Wales, where he admitted manslaughter on the basis of diminished responsibility.
Kaur and Pal had an arranged marriage in India in 2008 and Pal moved to England to live with her the following year. Kulvir worked for a linen cleaning company in Southall.
The couple lived with a family friend and his nephew and people who knew them said they seemed like a happily-married couple.
However, Pal strangled Kulvir with a ligature Feb 28.
Medical experts said Pal was suffering from schizoid affective disorder, which meant he had delusional jealousy with no basis in fact and the judge sentenced him on this basis.
