India has declared national mourning on March 29 as a mark of respect to former Singapore prime minister Lee Kuan Yew, who died on Monday.

The national flag will fly at half-mast throughout the country on March 29, an official statement said here on Friday. "There will be no official entertainment on the day," it added. Lee's funeral is slated for that day in Singapore.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the funeral on Sunday.

Lee, 91, the founder of modern Singapore, died at a Singapore hospital after a long battle with pneumonia.
