India came from a goal down to register their first win in the Asian Federation Confederation (AFC) Under-16 Women's Championship qualifying round, beating 10-women Bangladesh 2-1 at the Bangabandhu Stadium here Sunday.
Forward Roja Devi scored a brace to guide India to their first points in a Group B match. Sanjida was the lone goal scorer for the home side, who came into the match on the back of consecutive wins against Jordan and United Arab Emirates.
India's cause was helped by the 63rd minute expulsion of Bangladesh full back Masura for a high challenge inside the box.
Sanjida Akhter put the hosts ahead in the 21st minute when she scored from a penalty. India then responded in the 30th minute when Krishna Rani was brought down by opponent Anline Fernandes. Roja calmly converted the resultant penalty.
India exerted more pressure on their opponents in the second half and were duly rewarded when Roja netted in the 66th minute, shortly after Masura's send-off.
India lost their opening match of the group 1-2 against Iran and next play UAE Tuesday.
