The number of telephone subscribers in India increased from 100.20 crore at the end of May 2015 to 100.69 crore at the end of June, showing a monthly growth rate of 0.49 percent, data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) said here on Tuesday.
Urban subscribers increased from 580.15 million at the end of May to 584.21 million at the end of June, while rural subscribers also increased from 421.90 million to 422.75 million during the same period. The monthly growth rates of urban and rural subscription were 0.70 percent and 0.20 percent respectively.
Overall tele-density in India increased from 79.67 at the end of May to 79.98 at the end of June.
Total wireless subscriber base increased from 975.78 million at the end of May to 980.81 million at the end of June, registering a monthly growth rate of 0.51 percent.
Wireline subscriber base declined from 26.27 million to 26.15 million. Net reduction in the wireline subscriber base was 0.12 million at the monthly decline rate of 0.44 percent.
In the month of June, a total of 3.68 million subscribers submitted their requests for MNP, taking the cumulative MNP requests from 160.25 million at the end of May to 163.93 million.
