Post their World League Round 2 victory, the Indian women's hockey team is confident and geared up for their opening Pool A clash against China at the Hawke's Bay Cup here on Saturday.

The team will aim at putting up a good display and registering a victory when they take the turf at the Hastings Sports Park. Both teams will attempt to maintain the edge which will give them confidence ahead of matches against other teams.

The two teams last met at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games where India suffered a 1-2 loss. The face off in the eight-team tournament comes as a challenge for India to avenge their defeat.

The team will be led by Ritu Rani who is determined to give a good show. China, on the other hand, are captained by Cui Qiuxia whose team is full of skilful players.

"The victory at Hockey Women World League Round 2 has definitely motivated the team for the upcoming tournament. The players are all in good spirit with an excitement to face the opponents strongly and give them a tough fight," said Ritu.

"This is also a good opportunity for us to work on our game skills and bring in the required improvement which will help us to perform better in the Hockey World League Semi-Final (Women). We hope to begin the tournament on a winning note as this will boost the confidence of the team."
