India's Chandrodaya qualifies for men's hammer throw finals

India's Chandrodaya Narayan Singh qualified for the men's hammer throw finals at the Commonwealth Games here Monday.

Chandrodaya finished fifth in his Group A qualification throwing a best of 67.95 metres in his first attempt at the Hampden Park Stadium.

The 23-year-old could not emulate his first throw in his next two attempts as he was disqualified on his second and managed only 67.2m on his third and final throw.

England's Nicholas Miller topped the group with an attempt of 72.76m.

Meanwhile, it was disappointment for the other Indian in the fray Kamalpreet Singh who could not move beyond the Group B qualification stage.

 

The 26-year-old Jalandhar-born could only manage a best of 65.25m on his first attempt as his next two throws read 62.9m and 63.67.

Scot Mark Dry topped the group with a throw of 71.62.

Chandrodaya is one of the 12 finalists who will compete Tuesday.
