Paying rich tributes to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Jagmohan Dalmiya, ICC chief executive officer Dave Richardson on Sunday said it was Dalmiya's legacy that India will forever remain important for world cricket.
"I first came across him when I joined the ICC and he was the BCCI president. He always struck me as a polite and respectful man, quietly spoken but had a great attention to detail," said Richardson condoling Dalmiya's death.
"I think when you can show respect to everybody you can be a very good administrator. He treated everybody the same- very fairly.
"India would remain a very important part of world cricket and that would be Dalmiya's legacy," said the former South African wicket-keeper.
Dalmiya, 75, passed away at a city hospital on Sunday.
