The Congress on Monday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Israel from Tuesday will be judged by "concrete deliverables" directed to India's benefit and that "our stand on Palestinian issue must remain unchanged".
"We judge all such visits by concrete deliverables, neither by photo-opportunities, nor by reassurances and nor by statements. We will continue to apply that test whether the visit is to Russia, to the US or to Israel," said Congress spokseperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi.
"Second, we would be very happy if concrete deliverables is converted to India's benefit, whether in defence or in agriculture, the true areas where there is a particular Indo-Israel focus," he added.
"At the moment, nothing of that sort has happened. So, let us hold our horses. We do not intend to criticise the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) or the government before the visit is complete and before we can judge the deliverables.
"Last, the government has already made it clear but it must be maintained in both letter and spirit that our support for ... the Palestine issue should remain absolutely unchanged," he added.
