There is now a new atmosphere of trust in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday.

Addressing the nation from the Red Fort on India's Independence Day, he said "daily Jan Bhagidari" was increasing.

"All our schemes must serve the poor," he said. "Nobody wants to remain poor. Those who are poor want to move away from poverty. That is why, all our programmes must be for the poor."
