India on Thursday conveyed its "strong support" to Bangladesh in its fight against terrorism.

"I told the foreign secretary that I am also here to convey strong support to the government of Bangladesh in its battle against terrorism and extremism," bdnews24.com reported citing Indian Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar, who came to Dhaka to "review bilateral ties".

"This is an issue of direct concern to us as a neighbour," Jaishankar said after his meeting with foreign secretary Shahidul Haque.

Jaishankar, who came to Dhaka on Wednesday at the invitation of Haque, said New Delhi was "in touch" with Dhaka and both the countries were working "closely together on this matter".

Jaishanker also met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday.

The Islamic State and Al-Qaeda have reportedly been claiming responsibility for the murders of secular bloggers, teachers and online activists since September last year.

Bangladesh has denied the claims, saying the killers were "home-grown" extremists.

However, the US insisted they might have links with the international terrorists group.
