Indian American doctor in US varsity's Hall of Fame

An Indian American physician has been inducted into the Hall of Fame of the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Science in Ohio state.

Born in Andhra Pradesh, Dr Vadrevu Raju graduated in medicine from the Andhra University in 1965.

After completing his internship and residency in India, Raju served as a casualty officer at a hospital in Surrey, southeast of England, in 1968.

In Britain, he also completed his ophthalmology residency and fellowship at the Royal Eye Group of Hospitals, London.

Thereafter, he worked as faculty in West Virginia University's ophthalmology department for about eight years. Since 1984 he serves as a clinical professor and has a thriving private practice.

 

Raju is also a founder and medical director of the Eye Foundation of America (EFA).

Headquartered in West Virginia, the foundation provides affordable eye care and treatment for children, especially in developing countries.

EFA has already served in more than 14 countries and built eye hospitals in India.

Raju received several national and international awards and honour. He received the Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Samman Award in House of Lords in 2014 and Top Ophthalmologist award in the 2014 World International Association of Ophthalmologists.
