The Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Customs Department has detained a 27-year-old Indian national in connection with the seizure of 5.34 kg of drugs worth 1.01 million Malaysian ringgits ($288,155), media reported Monday.

The man was detained after he arrived at the airport on an inbound Malaysia Airlines flight from Chennai, India.

The latest arrest brings the number of foreigners arrested by the department under Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 to 18 between January and December this year.

In total, the department had recorded 32 cases involving 347 kg of drugs worth over 62 million Malaysian ringgits this year with the arrests of 22 individuals.
