War veterans and serving officers of the Indian and Bangladeshi Armed Forces came together on the occasion of the 43rd Vijay Diwas to commemorate the sacrifices of Indian soldiers in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.
They were led by General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command, Lt.Gen. M.M.S. Rai.
While the day is celebrated across the country, Vijay Diwas assumes a greater significance at the Eastern Command where Mukti Jodhas (Bangladeshi liberation fighters) and Indian soldiers had fought together to put the Pakistani Army down decisively.
The soldiers reunite to celebrate the historic moment.
A host of retired and serving officers, including former army chief General Shankar Roy Chowdhury and Bangladesh Social Welfare Minister Syed Mohsin Ali, placed wreaths at the "Vijay Smarak" (Victory Memorial) here.
