The 50-metre vessel that can achieve a maximum speed of 34 knots is armed with state-of-the-art weaponry and advanced communication and navigational equipment, said a statement from the Coast Guard.

According to the Coast Guard, the new vessel is an ideal platform for undertaking multifarious close-coast missions such as surveillance, interdiction, search and rescue operations and medical evacuation.

The vessel will be based here and would be under the administrative and operational control of the Coast Guard's eastern region commander.

With the commissioning of Rajkamal, the force level of the Coast Guard has gone up to 77 ships and boats and with the planned inductions the force level would be doubling by 2018.
