India's High Commissioner to Pakistan T.C.A. Raghavan Tuesday met Sartaj Aziz, advisor to Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on foreign affairs and national security, at the Foreign Office in Islamabad, media reports said.

According to a report in Dawn, the two officials reportedly met to discuss the details of a proposed meeting that is likely to take place between Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly later this month.

The officials also discussed the recent downturn in India-Pakistan relations due to repeated exchanges of fire between soldiers of both the countries along the Line of Control that divides the state of Jammu and Kashmir between the two neighbours.

Sartaj Aziz said the meeting between the prime ministers of the two nuclear-powered neighbours would be a step towards improving relations.

He also added that the meeting would be an effective way to clarify the confusions prevailing between both the nations.

Aziz also said that Pakistan was looking to foster cordial ties with India.
