A benchmark index for Indian equities, the sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), on Wednesday opened slightly lower and was trading at 26,966.51 points some 29 minutes after the opening bell.
Against the previous day's close at 26,932.88 points, the 30-share Sensex opened at 26,903.42 points but quickly gained momentum to touch 26,997.71 points at 9.38 a.m. At 9.44 a.m. it was ruling at 26,966.51 points, with a gain of 33.63 points, or 0.12 percent.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading higher, at 8,157.10 points, with a gain of 4.20 points or 0.05 percent.
