Indian Railways Wednesday reported an increase of 12.02 percent in its total income during the first six months of the current fiscal which stood at Rs.73,403.67 crore from Rs.65,525.85 crore in the same period last year.
According to the railways, the total goods earnings have gone up from Rs.44,162.15 crore during April 1 to Sep 30, 2013 to Rs.48,771.58 crore during April 1-Sep 30, 2014, registering an increase of 10.44 percent.
The total passenger revenue earnings during April-September 2014 was Rs.21,079.09 crore compared to Rs.18,099.80 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 16.46 percent, the release said.
Revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs.1,979.91 crore during April 1-Sep 30, 2014, compared to Rs.1,850.17 crore during the same period last year, an increase of 7.01 percent.
The total numbers of passengers booked during the period under review was 4,253.32 million compared to 4,255.81 million during the same period last year, showing a decrease of 0.06 percent.
