Indian rescue teams have reached the epicentre of the devastating earthquake that hit Nepal Saturday but found that despite extensive damage to property, loss of life was lesser than expected, an official said.
The epicentre lay in Lamjung, about 75 km northwest of Kathmandu.
"Our teams reached the epicentre today (Sunday)... There is extensive damage, but our assessment is that damage to life may not be as much due to the material used in construction of houses," Defence Secretary R.K. Mathur told reporters here.
"We have rescued 141 people in the area and moved them to hospitals in Kathmandu," he said.
