Officials of India and Saudi Arabia met here on Monday to discuss issues pertaining to Indian workers in the oil-rich Gulf nation. .

The agenda for the two-day meet that started on Monday includes the case of Indians working as domestic helpers in Saudi Arabia as well. The meet has been organised by the ministry of overseas Indian affairs.

The meet comes close on the heels of a much publicised incident of violence against an Indian housemaid working in the country, whose hand was reportedly chopped off by her Saudi employer. The incident was, however, denied by the employer.

The Indian government has taken up the case with the Saudi authorities.

There are nearly 2.9 million Indians in Saudi Arabia, a large number of them professionals like doctors, engineers and technologists.
