Indian trio qualify for final round in shooting World Cup

India's shooting troika of Olympic bronze medallist Gagan Narang, Chain Singh and Sanjeev Rajput, qualified for the final of the men's 50 metre Rifle 3 positions event of the World Cup (Rifle/Pistol) here on Tuesday.

Among them, Gagan returned the best score with a combined total of 1170 for all the three positions of kneeling, prone and standing, according to a National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) release.

Chain was next best with a score of 1167, while Rajput fired a total of 1157. The final round is slated for Wednesday.

In the men's 25m rapid fire pistol, both Gurpreet Singh and Olympic silver medallist Vijay Kumar failed to make it to the final. The duo shot a total of 569 and 562 respectively to be eliminated in qualification.

 

India has so far won two bronze medals in the competition through pistol ace Jitu Rai and women's rifle shooter Apurvi Chandela, who also qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
