A 26-year-old Indian worker has been caught from a British takeaway for overstaying his visa.

Immigration officers found him at a Wearside takeaway shop, North East England, in a raid, Sunderland Echo website reported. Home Office staff from the Immigration Enforcement team visited King's Flavour shop, in Park Lane, Sunderland, Thursday evening, acting on intelligence that the business was employing people with no right to be in Britain.

The staff were questioned about their immigration status, and the Indian was subsequently arrested on suspicion of overstaying his visa. He has now been detained, pending his removal from Britain.

The shop, meanwhile, has been served with a notice warning that a civil penalty of up to 20,000 pounds will be imposed for employing the illegal worker unless evidence is provided that due checks were done.
