Indians are naturally innovative, civilised and inclined towards sustainability, Union Minister of State for Environment Anil Madhav Dave said here on Wednesday.
Speaking at the 11th 'Sustainability Summit' organised by the CII-ITC Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development, the minister said India needs to "decolonise and develop policies that suit local conditions and sensitivities".
"Only Indian solutions can help meet the Intended Nationally Determined Contributions agreed at COP21 in Paris last year," he said.
Dave said Indian culture has always been close to principles of sustainable development with a quest for innovative ideas and solutions.
The summit, an annual flagship event of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), is focused on Global Goals and National Competitiveness.
The UN last year adopted 17 Global Goals or Sustainable Development Goals to shift the world onto a path of inclusive and sustainable development.
