Indirect tax revenue collection up 7.4 percent

The government on Wednesday reported an increase of 7.4 percent in indirect tax revenue collection -- at Rs.478,630 crore during April-February 2014-15 on a provisional basis.

A provisional statement from the ministry of finance showed that the collection in the corresponding period of last fiscal was Rs.441,565 crore.

Customs collections increased by 8.3 percent and stood at Rs.170,943 crore during the period under review from Rs.157,944 crore collected during the like period of the previous fiscal.

Service tax collections grew by 8.3 percent to Rs.145,007 crore during April-February 2014-15 from Rs.134,201 crore collected during April-February 2013-14.

Central excise collection during the period under review was up 5.3 percent and stood at Rs.162,680 crore during the period under review -- up from Rs.149,420 crore collected during April-February 2013-14.
