An Indo-Canadian man has been jailed for six years for drug trafficking in the country, media reported.
Ravinder Grewal, 33, along with eight others, was arrested by police last year during operation 'Project Anarchy' carried out to dismantle his drug network in Ottawa and Toronto, the Ottawa Sun reported Tuesday.
Ottawa police officers used wiretaps, covert entries and collaborators to enmesh themselves in the cocaine trade, ultimately arresting the nine men and seizing nearly 25 kg of cocaine.
Grewal, who had moved to Toronto for business, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to traffic cocaine and conspiracy to possess the proceeds of crime before the Ontario Superior Court.
Two other accused -- Michael Fontana, 22, and Jordan Forester, 37, both of Ottawa -- have each been sentenced to five years in prison.
Judge Catherine Kehoe said it "saddened" her to impose a hefty sentence on a relatively young man like Grewal with no previous criminal record, who was accompanied by his supportive family.
"You have everything to change your life for," she said.
