The Indonesian government on Tuesday promised large sums of bonus and allowance for medallists at the Rio Olympic Games, starting on Friday.
A total of five billion rupiah (some $380,401) bonus, a huge number for local standard, and a 27 million rupiah (about $2,054) allowance per month will be awarded to the athlete who can get gold medals, according to Indonesian Sport Minister Imam Nahrawi, reports Xinhua.
A total of two billion rupiah (equal to $152,160) bonus and a 15 million rupiah (some $1,141) allowance per month will be given to those who will get silver medals, Nahrawi said.
For bronze medalists, they will get one billion rupiah (some $176,080) in bonus and a 10 million rupiah (about $761) allowance every month, he added.
Twenty eight Indonesian athletes are to compete in seven sports in the Olympic in Rio de Jeneiro.
They hope that they can reap medals in badminton and weightlifting.
