A total of 1,426 people died of infectious diseases in China in July, with AIDS killing the maximum people, the government said Friday.
AIDS resulted in 991 deaths last month, while tuberculosis was the second-biggest killer, claiming 189 lives, Xinhua cited the National Health and Family Planning Commission as saying.
In July, China reported a single H7N9 avian flu case, bringing the total number of infections to 133. Among the cases, 44 ended in death, the statement said.
A total of 755,623 infectious disease cases were reported last month.
Among the diseases, the major reports were of cholera, plague, hepatitis, tuberculosis, syphilis, dysentery, gonorrhoea, foot-and-mouth disease, diarrhoea and mumps.
