The alleged misuse of his government residence by an AAP leader who recently quit his government job in Haryana has been reported to the Election Commission by the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD).
The INLD, in its complaint, said that the AAP candidate for the Hisar Lok Sabha seat, Y.S. Khayalia was misusing his government residence for party activities, thus violating the model code of conduct.
Khayalia, a senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer in Haryana, had resigned from the government last month and joined the AAP. He was posted as divisional commissioner at Hisar and continues to reside in the sprawling bungalow of the divisional commissioner there.
He has been fielded by AAP from the same seat where he was the seniormost government officer till last month.
The INLD has demanded legal action against the AAP candidate for misuse of his government residence. It pointed out that Khayalia was openly using his residence for party and campaign work, and misusing government perks like telephone, electricity, water and other facilities.
The INLD complaint said that it was regrettable that the AAP candidate, who has himself been well acquainted with election work and the model code of conduct, was violating the same with impunity.
After its good showing in the Delhi assembly polls December last year, the AAP is focussing on Haryana for the April-May general elections.
