Asuncion, Aug 6 (IANS/EFE) Officials at a prison in Paraguay thwarted an escape by two inmates who outlined details of their plan on social media, authorities said on Wednesday.
The pair had already removed some of the bars from their cell when authorities pounced on Tuesday night after spotting the escape talk on social networks, the the attorney general's office said in a statement.
After preventing the escape, officials inspected every cell at the prison in the northeastern city of Pedro Juan Caballero, seizing a large number of mobile phones and chargers, homemade weapons, alcohol and small quantities of marijuana and other drugs.
The AG office said it plans to question the would-be escapees and a number of prison officials as part of a broader investigation into how drugs and mobile phones entered the facility.
