Slovenia has cracked down on a ring of drug dealers involved in an international criminal gang smuggling drugs to Slovenia and other European countries, police said Tuesday.
At least 12 people, aged between 25 and 50, were arrested, and more than one million euros worth of illicit drugs in street value seized in Slovenia, Xinhua reported citing Marjan Fank, a senior police officer.
The operation was undertaken in coordination with police forces from Britain, the Netherlands, Italy and Germany, he added.
More than 100 investigators from seven EU countries were involved in the Slovenian police-sponsored investigation.
Due to its location between the Balkans and central and western Europe, Slovenia is often part of a major drug trafficking route with illicit drugs reportedly being smuggled through the country from the Middle East and South America to western Europe.
