Iran has built missile-producing factories in Syria to strengthen resistance movement in the region, a top commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said Tuesday.
"At present, Syria's missile-producing factories have been made by Iran, and missiles of Iranian design are being manufactured there," Xinhua quoted Commander of the IRGC Aerospace Force Brigadier General Amir-Ali Hajizadeh as saying to a news agency.
Hajizadeh added that Syria was the country that first trained the Iranian forces to use missiles in the 1980s, but afterwards, the Islamic Republic made such a great headway that it managed to help the anti-Israeli resistance front, including Lebanon's Hezbollah and Palestinian resistance groups, produce missiles.
Iran, the main regional ally of the Syrian government, supports the ruling party in Syria in its conflict with the opposition groups. It has condemned foreign intervention and terrorists' involvement in the Syrian crisis.
Iran has reiterated that it seeks to establish peace and stability in the region and help Syrians end the civil war.
