Iran and Iraq have reached an agreement on drilling cooperation in the Iranian city of Ahwaz, state media reported Tuesday.

The agreement was signed Monday by Managing Director of the National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) Hamid-Reza Golpayegani and Deputy Director-General of the Iraqi Drilling Company Mohammed Ahmed Rubaie, Xinhua reported.

According to the agreement, the NIDC will undertake training for Iraqi companies in drilling operations, using electronic systems as well as fluid mechanics engineering.

"The drilling industry is one of the major pillars in producing oil and gas, and plays a major role in discovering, developing and exploiting oil fields," Golpayegani said.
