Iraqi armed forces have re-captured the district of al-Qaim on the border with Syria, driving out the Islamic State, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said.
Haider al-Abadi congratulated the army on Friday for seizing the district in such a short time, Efe news reported.
al-Qaim's liberation from the IS was part of a larger offensive which began on October 26.
Located in Anbar province, al-Qaim was the most important population centre in Iraq to remain under IS control.
