Militants of the Islamic State (IS) radical group Thursday took control of parts of Deir ez-Zor military airbase in Syria after blowing up a booby-trapped car at the airport entrance.
A fierce encounter between the Syrian army forces and the IS militants broke out after the blast, MENA news agency reported citing Syria Live network.
The militants also managed to take control of a water plant adjacent to the airbase.
