Beirut, June 5 (IANS/AKI) Islamic State militants have beheaded and crucified a man in northeast Syria they accused of murdering and stealing from his aunt, a monitor reported on Friday.
The atrocity took place in the village of Baja in al-Hasakah province, said the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which relies on a network of activists in Syria for its information.
A video clip released by IS said it had applied the al-Heraba or "law of the sword" punishment for banditry to the man.
The two-and-a half-minute clip ends with the man being forced to kneel and place his head on a block of wood before a crowd of onlookers.
IS is battling rebels and pro-government forces in al-Hasakah and last week launched an offensive to take control of the provincial capital of the same name.
