A man with a knife who allegedly tried to enter the Israeli embassy here on Wednesday was shot in the leg by Turkish security officers, media reported.
The attacker was heard shouting "I will change the Middle East", and reportedly attempted to attack the embassy's security personnel before he was shot, Hurriyat Daily news reported.
The suspect was identified as 38-year-old Osman Nuri Caliskan from the Anatolian province of Konya and is a construction worker allegedly suffering from mental problems.
The bomb squad, meanwhile, examined a suspicious package found near the embassy building which later turned out to be empty.
The Ankara Governor's Office said in a statement that the attacker had no links with terror organisations.
Meanwhile, Israel's Charge d'affaires in Ankara Amira Oron said the attacker did not attempt to enter the embassy building.
