Florence, April 1 (IANS/AKI) Italian police on Wednesday arrested the boyfriend of a former model whose badly decomposed body was found wrapped in a plastic bag on the outskirts of the city of Florence.
Davide Di Martino, 50, is suspected of beating ex-model Irene Focardi to death on February 3 and of dumping her body in a ditch near his flat, where it was discovered at the weekend.
A passer-by in the Piagge suburb of Florence contacted police after spotting an arm sticking out of the plastic bag.
Di Martino's arrest came after fingerprint searches of his apartment and cellar, where he was already under house arrest for domestic violence.
Focardi, 43, was identified from dental records.
An autopsy suggested Focardi died from a fractured skull and also had several fractured limbs. Conclusive autopsy results are due later this month, prosecutors in Florence said.
