Rome, Aug 11 (IANS/AKI) An Albanian supporter of the Islamic State who proselytised for the terrorist group was deported from Italy on state security grounds, the government said on Wednesday.

The Albanian was residing in the northern city of Ferrara and led its Islamic centre, using it to spread radical religious propaganda, Interior Minister Angelino Alfano was quoted as saying.

"I decided to deport him because he used heavily fanatical language to preach to the faithful and constantly visited websites with Islamic State-related content," Alfano said.

"He showed clear disdain for western culture and hatred of those countries supporting the (US-led) international coalition(against IS)," Alfano added.

The Albanian's expulsion followed lengthy police investigation and brought to 108 the number of terrorism suspects deported from Italy since January 2015, Alfano said.

"Of these expulsions, 42 have taken place this year," Alfano stated.

A 26-year-old Pakistani, who played cricket for Italy's under-19 national team, was among four terrorist suspects deported last week.
