The Jadavpur University website was hacked into on Monday and on being clicked, one of its pages lead straight to an adult site, instead of information on the admission procedure, an official said.
The problem was soon sorted out.
"Necessary actions have been taken and police have been informed. We are also trying to get to the bottom of the matter because this is the second time the site has been hacked into," registrar P.K. Ghosh told IANS.
In September last year when a section of students participated in a mass agitation demanding the removal of its then vice chancellor Abhijit Chakarabarti, a similar incident added a bizarre twist to the ongoing controversy.
The vice chancellor's page was hacked and it displayed a message saying he is "sorry".
At that time, many students were hospitalised after police allegedly beat them on September 17 as they were protesting outside Chakrabarti's office, seeking a fresh inquiry into the sexual harassment of a student in the campus in August last year.
Chakrabarti eventually quit earlier this year.
