Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Babu Bajrangi, who was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in the Naroda Patia massacre during the 2002 Gujarat riots, on Monday withdrew his bail application in wake of the Gujarat High Court refusing to grant him temporary relief on medical grounds.

A division bench of Justice S.R. Brahmabhatt and Justice K.J. Thaker had asked the special investigation team and the superintendent of civil hospital to submit results of medical tests conducted on Babu Bajrangi before deciding on his bail plea.

Bajrangi had pleaded that he needed to undergo treatment for his ailments caused by food poisoning and blood infection, but the test reports did not show such any such symptoms. After this, the court said they were not inclined to give him relief and, subsequently, Bajrangi's lawyer withdrew the bail application.

Bajrangi, along with 31 others including former Gujarat minister Mayaben Kodnani, was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for the massacre of 97 Muslims in 2002.
