Senior Congress leader and Science and Technology Minister S. Jaipal Reddy lost the Lok Sabha election from Mahabubnagar in Telangana region.
Telangana Rashtra Samithi's Jithender Reddy defeated Jaipal Reddy by 4,800 votes.
Another union minister, Sarve Satyanarayana, finished a poor third in the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha seat.
