Indian Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday performed the ceremony to mark the opening of the London Stock Exchange followed by sessions with investors and financial technology (fintech) company leaders.

"Finance Minister Arun Jaitley opened the market at London Stock Exchange on February 27," the Indian Finance Ministry said in a tweet.

He was accompanied for the special ceremony by Britain's Minister for International Trade Liam Fox and London Stock Exchange Group CEO Xavier Rolet.

Post the ceremony, Jaitley and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci) delegation met in a roundtable conference with fintech companies, investors and bond issuers at LSE, the ministry said.

Jaitley also attended a business interaction session with over 100 investors organised by the UK-India Businesses Council (UKIBC).

The Finance Minister is on a five-day official visit to Britain from February 24-28.

On Saturday, Jaitley delivered a talk at the London School of Economics on 'Transforming India: Vision for the Next Decade', where he spoke about the country aspiring to be a more open economy.

"An aspirational India poised to be more open and less protectionist," Jaitley had said, adding that country's "emphasis is on infrastructure and rural sectors."

The Finance Minister is also slated to attend a reception by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace.

On Tuesday, Jaitley will meet with his British counterpart. Thereafter, he will meet with CEOs at a meeting being organised by the Confederation of British Industry.

Jaitley will return to the national capital early on March 1.
