Arun Jaitley, who underwent a kidney transplant surgery in May, resumed his duties as Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister on Thursday after a gap of more than three months.

In Jaitley's absence, Railways and Coal Minister Piyush Goyal had been holding temporary charge of the Finance and Corporate Affairs Ministries.

According to officials, after resuming his duties Jaitley met with the Secretaries of Finance, Expenditure and Financial Services.

The Minister also met the Chairpersons of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) and the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).

Finance Ministry sources also confirmed that Jaitley is currently engaged in individual meetings with other officials of the ministry in order to update himself on various issues.

President Kovind had earlier issued a notification directing assignment of finance and corporate affairs portfolios to Jaitley which were temporarily held by Goyal.
