BJP leader Arun Jaitley has alleged the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is being misused to target and implicate Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in fake cases.

In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, released to media Tuesday, Jaitley, the leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha, said CBI arrested former Gujarat minister Amit Shah, a close aide of Modi, without any "prosecutable evidence".

"In order to arrest Amit Shah, they relied on the false testimony of two witnesses namely, Ramanbhai Patel and Dashrathbhai Patel, noted land grabbers of Gujarat," the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said in his letter, dated Sep 27.

He also said that in the Ishrat Jehan case, CBI struck deals with some suspects to trap others and has demanded that a panel led by a Supreme Court judge must probe charges of politicisation of the CBI probe.
