Jajdish Mukhi sworn in as Governor of Assam

Andaman and Nicobar Islands Lt Governor Jajdish Mukhi was on Tuesday sworn in as the 30th Governor of Assam. The Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, Justice Ajit Singh, administered the oath of office.

The ceremony was held at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra here.

A BJP leader from Delhi, Mukhi had held the portfolios of Finance, Planning, Excise and Taxation and Higher Education in the Delhi government. He is credited with banning lottery trade in Delhi in 1994.

Born on December 1, 1942, Mukhi won from Janakpuri constituency in Delhi seven times from 1980. He lost to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the 2015 assembly election.

 

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal attended the swearing-in ceremony.

After taking charge, Mukhi visited Kamakhya temple. Later he went to Bhupen Hazarika Samadhi Sthal and offered floral tributes to the bard.
