An Islamic State (IS) militant linked to the deadly January 14 bomb and gun attacks in Indonesia was on Thursday sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The judge found Dodi Suridi, 23, guilty of preparing bombs that were detonated near the Sarinah shopping mall in Jakarta, Efe news reported.

After the judge read out Suridi's verdict, he turned and smiled at the visitors in the court, raised his right hand and said: "This is the risk of being a terrorist," eliciting shocked gasps from people in the room.

On January 14, militants linked to the IS terrorist group detonated two bombs, one that went off near a Starbucks cafe and another at a police post, followed by gunmen opening fire at a crowd.

Eight persons died in the attacks, including four assailants, while at least 23 persons were injured.

Indonesian police arrested 12 suspects linked to the violence.
