Jamaican sprint star Usain Bolt has urged international aid for the recovery of the Dominican Republic, affected by tropical storm Erika.

At least 31 people were killed, 20 more disappeared in the Caribbean island nation in the wake of Erika, Xinhua reported on Thursday.

According to a report by Cuban news agency Prensa Latina, Bolt called for international aid in a brief video spread by YouTube. The six-time Olympic champion said all kind of aid is welcome in Dominica.

The current 100 metres and 200 metres world record holder Bolt joined the calls made by several governments, organisations and personalities who have expressed their solidarity with Dominica.

On Thursday and Friday, Dominica will hold a national mourning day for the victims of Erika, which last week caused severe flooding, landslides and overflowing rivers.
